Everton winger Yannick Bolasie has claimed in the Mail that he once beat the world’s speediest man Usain Bolt in a game of five-a-side football, and a subsequent race.

The £25 million (Mail) summer signing from Crystal Palace told the Mail about how he locked horns with Bolt, a self-confessed Manchester United fan, last year while the nine-time Olympic champion was in the UK.

Speaking with the Mail, he said “I’ve played football with him. We played a game at pitch somewhere in Chelsea, just a little muck around. I know his mates and the people who manage him. He was knocking around in London and wanted a game of football, so they invited me along. I brought my brothers with me and we got two teams together. It was around about this time last year. He’s all right, to be fair.”

Bolt has never hid his love of football, attending numerous Manchester United games including their 2011 Champions League final duel with Barcelona.

The record-breaking Jamaican, who has won gold medals in all three events he has entered in three separate Olympics, will retire after the 2017 World Championships but has already stated that he would go sooner he ‘had the chance to play for Manchester United’.

Bolasie, no slouch himself, is regarded as one of the fastest men in the top-flight and the Congolese international has furthered that he tested himself against Bolt in a race, and that he even came out on top.

“I had him in a race!” he continued. “There are some videos of it somewhere, it was good fun. I need to try and get hold of it. But the game? Obviously my team won.”

Bolasie has made a good start to life at Goodison Park, with his directness giving Ronald Koeman’s side a more cutting edge. Everton have won four of their opening six league games, and despite a setback against Bournemouth, remain inside the top four.
