Aston Villa fan favourite Yannick Bolasie has been talking about his greatest ever teammates over on TikTok.

The DR Congo international – who made 21 appearances for Aston Villa during a loan spell from Everton – mentioned that one of the best he played with was sold by the Villans in 2021.

What’s the story?

Well, Bolasie named Jack Grealish as one of the best players he has shared a pitch with.

The 33-year-old made 14 appearances alongside the England international at Villa Park in the 2018/19 campaign, the season Aston Villa won promotion back to the Premier League under Dean Smith.

When asked who the best player he ever played with is, Bolasie responded: “That’s too tough man Rooney, Zaha, Bruno Fernandes, Grealish, Lukaku and there’s still way more.”

Aston Villa averaged 1.64 points per game when Bolasie and Grealish shared a pitch in the Championship, although they never actually combined for a single goal.

Nevertheless, Bolasie’s efforts in the first half of that 2018/19 campaign – where he scored two goals and provided five assists – helped the Villans mount a push for promotion.

Aston Villa did well out of Grealish sale

We understand that a number of Aston Villa fans are still upset with Grealish for the manner in which he departed, so soon after signing a new long-term contract.

Nevertheless, the Villans did well out of the deal.

£100m – a British transfer record – was received, which helped Aston Villa bring the likes of Alex Moreno and Emiliano Buendia to the Midlands.

Unai Emery also arrived, and the Villans now sit sixth in the Premier League – just six points off a place in the UEFA Champions League qualification spots.

Of course, a lot of fans would have preferred to keep Grealish, but there is no denying that Aston Villa are in a better overall position as a club after the £100m sale.
