Leeds United travel to face Reading in a crucial Championship clash this weekend.
Chris Wood scores the first goal for Leeds United against Reading
Ahead of this weekend’s clash between Reading and Leeds, Royals striker Yann Kermorgant has hit out at the Whites’ playing style and suggested that they are over-reliant on Chris Wood, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports.
Garry Monk’s men travel to the Madejski Stadium this weekend one place and two points ahead of Reading in the Championship table.
It has been an extremely positive season for both teams with the pair well on course to secure spots in the play-offs this term despite expectations before the season suggesting that they would do incredibly well to move themselves into the reckoning.
Despite that however, Kermorgant has slammed the style that Leeds play and suggested that without their star striker, they would probably not be doing so well this season.
Leeds United manager Garry Monk
“Chris Wood has scored nearly all of Leeds’ goals this season. If he gets injured, they have no plan B. As a striker, I always want more goals, but as long as we get a result, I am happy,” he said, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post.
“Some teams might think we’re boring but we might think they are boring playing long balls.”
While Kermorgant does not appear to have been too impressed by the Whites, and it is fair to say that Wood has scored a large portion of Leeds’ goals – nearly half of their 52 strikes in the league this year have come from the 24-goal New Zealander – Leeds fans will point to the events of the previous meeting between the two sides to counter the 35-year-old’s argument.
Souleymane Doukara scores the second goal for Leeds United from a penalty
The Whites had to cope without Wood for around 67 minutes after he limped off when the score was 1-0 at Elland Road back in December, and with Souleymane Doukara leading the line, they doubled the lead late on and largely restricted their opponents to half-chances.
And while Leeds’ style may not be as pleasing on the eye as Reading’s generally, they will surely not care one bit if they pick up another vital three points this weekend.
