Newcastle United fans famously adore skillful wingers with an eye for the spectacular – and Ligue 1 wonderkid Yann Karamoh is exactly that.

If doesn’t matter how many times Newcastle United are bitten, it appears they are never shy about delving into the French market for potential bargains.
And, despite the high-profile failures of Remy Cabella, Romain Amalfitano and Florian Thauvin, it appears that another sprightly Ligue 1 winger could be on his way to St James’ Park. L’Equipe reports that 18-year-old Yann Karamoh, who plies his trade for Caen, has piqued Newcastle’s interest after a fine breakthrough campaign.
Karamoh has played 35 Ligue 1 games this season, starting 25, and his rapid turn of pace and ability to leave defenders dazed and dazzled with either foot has drawn comparisons with former Rennes wonderkid Ousmane Dembele.

And the fact he has five goals and four assists to his name highlights what a special talent the France Under-19 international is. After all, few teenage wingers can boast such an impressive end product.
Furthermore, with just one year remaining on his current deal at Caen, it appears that the side who finished just a point above the Ligue 1 drop zone will be lucky to keep their prized asset beyond this summer.
Newcastle owner Mike Ashley
In many ways, however, Karamoh is the typical Mike Ashley signing. The much-maligned Newcastle owner has drawn plenty of criticism from supporters by prioritising young, unproven talents with the apparent aim of securing a quick profit rather than helping his club progress.
Nonetheless, Karamoh is a thrilling talent, the kind of jet-heeled street footballer that Newcastle United supporters love. Unlike Cabella, Amalfitano and Thauvin, the fresh-faced flyer could be a bonafide fans’ favourite at St James’ Park.
