The England international has joined Middlesbrough on a season-long loan this year.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reassured Calum Chambers that he has a future at the club, despite being loaned out to Middlesbrough this season, reports talkSPORT.
Chambers joined the Gunners from Southampton for a fee of £16m in 2014, arriving with a reputation as a burgeoning young talent.
Coming in with a high price tag on his head, things have not gone to plan for the England international as of yet, as he has had to battle injuries and a number of inconsistent performances across his 59 appearances for the club.
Having started Arsenal’s opening game of the new Premier League season against Liverpool, Chambers took a drop down the pecking order after the club signed centre-back Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia towards the end of the transfer window.
As a result, he has agreed to make the switch to Teeside for the remainder of the season to further hone his talents under Boro boss Aitor Karanka.
However, Wenger sees Chambers’s move to Middlesbrough strictly as a temporary measure, and believes the former Southampton youth graduate can begin to prove his worth this season and beyond.
“He has gone to Middlesbrough for the season and it is vital for him to play. I personally think he will be a great centre back.” the Frenchman said.
Chambers is still young but pressure will be on him to showcase the talents that made Arsenal part with such a high amount of money for him at such a young age.
Middlesbrough represents a perfect platform for the 21-year-old to further his development, as he will get the game time necessary to prove to Wenger that he is a valuable member of his parent club.
