Former Barcelona star Xavi has warned Everton that they could lose manager Ronald Koeman to the La Liga giants in future, speaking to the Mirror.

The Dutchman took charge at Goodison Park in the summer, replacing Roberto Martinez after he was sacked before the end of last season.

He arrived on Merseyside with a growing reputation in the game after an impressive two years with Southampton.

He has proven to be a big hit in the early stages of his career with the Blues as they have shown drastic improvement on last season.

During his time with the Saints, the European Cup-winning former Barca star was touted as a future manager of the Catalan club and Xavi has warned the Toffees that is something that could happen.

“It wouldn’t surprise me to see Koeman end up at Barcelona in the future. He’s good enough, but it’s more than that,” he told the Mirror.

“To coach at Barcelona you need to understand what is expected of you, the style that is expected of you, and he understands that.”

For now, Koeman will be fully focused on helping Everton to improve on their 11th-placed finishes in the last two seasons.

They have started strongly this season, with their 1-1 draw against Manchester City on Saturday leaving them sixth in the table with 15 points from their first eight games.

They will be looking to return to winning ways next weekend when they take on Burnley away from home.
