The likes of Victor Wanyama, Virgil van Dijk and Fraser Forster have left Celtic in recent years.

Barcelona legend Xavi has told The Scottish Sun that he cannot understand why players would leave Celtic for mid-table clubs in England.

Celtic are one of the biggest clubs in the world and have a very strong following.

The Bhoys have dominated Scottish football in recent years and are firm favourites to win the Scottish Premiership title this season.

The Hoops are also playing in the group stage of the Champions League this season after a two-year absence.

Former Barcelona and Spain international midfielder Xavi, now on the books of Al Sadd, has stated that he cannot understand why players would leave Celtic for a mid-table club in England.

“I understand it will be very difficult if Manchester City, Arsenal, or any other Champions League club in England came in for them, but I can’t understand the mentality of players who will leave a club like Celtic for a club that maybe is mid-table in England,” Xavi told The Scottish Sun.

“To leave a stadium like that and the chance of Champions League football to maybe earn more money playing for a mid-table team in England is not something I can understand from a player who’s hungry for success.”

The likes of Victor Wanyama, Virgil van Dijk and Fraser Forster have left Celtic in recent years.

Although Celtic are a massive club, the problem is that the Scottish Premiership is not very competitive and does not have a great reputation.

Leaving the Bhoys for a mid-table club in England does enable players to progress in their career and enhance their reputation.

Moreover, if a player does well for a mid-table club in England, then he could earn a move to one of the top teams in the Premier League.
