Barcelona manager Xavi has told FIFA’s Twitter page during a Q&A session that Tottenham star Richarlison has been the best “finisher” at the World Cup so far – after the Spurs ace netted a brace for Brazil against Serbia in a 2-0 win.

Richarlison, 25, put Serbia to the sword just when the Selecao needed him. Brazil had been thwarted by Serbia for just over an hour, before the Spurs man reacted first to put Brazil 1-0 up – after Viniciur Jr’s shot was parried to him.

Then, little over 10 minutes later, Richarlison netted his second – a gorgeous bicycle kick that left the Serbia goalkeeper with no chance. A wonderful display from the Spurs man, who lasted 79 minutes before replaced by Gabriel Jesus.

Antonio Cassano had some strange criticism for Richarlison after the game, claiming he was “terrible”. But Xavi disagrees, saying that he has been the best finisher at the World Cup so far – following his brace last week.

Xavi: Tottenham star Richarlison best finisher at World Cup

Richarlison has got to be one of the front runners for the golden boot. Starting for Brazil, he has two goals in one game and given he is likely to lead Brazil’s attack for much of the competition – he could easily get to six or seven.

Currently, Kylian Mbappe is leading the race on three. Enner Valencia for Ecuador, has three. A whole host of stars are one two, including Lionel Messi. But Richarlison has played a game less than those players, and is clearly in good form.

But as things stand, you would argue that Richarlison and Mbappe are the current favourites to win the award. Given, they are scoring goals and playing for the tournament’s best sides to go on and win the entire trophy on December 18.
