Xavi hints Barcelona player could leave amid Tottenham Hotspur interest

Barcelona boss Xavi has indicated that Tottenham Hotspur target Franck Kessie knows ‘exactly’ what his future holds.

Tottenham Hotspur continue to be linked with Franck Kessie and Xavi has hardly confirmed his Barcelona future.

Barca were in action against AC Milan in the early hours of Wednesday morning as they played out a pre-season friendly at Allegiant Stadium.

Ansu Fati handed Barcelona a 1-0 win but question marks surround a number of Barcelona players.

Ousmane Dembele played no part as he prepares to join Paris Saint-Germain whilst midfielder Kessie wasn’t seen either.

Despite being named on the bench, Kessie wasn’t involved at all and the official lineup appeared to have an error in including him.

The Ivorian is being heavily linked away from Barcelona this summer with Tottenham Hotspur thought to be interested.

Kessie playing no part has resulted in questions about an immediate move and Xavi hasn’t really played down that idea.

As quoted by Barca Universal, Xavi suggested that Kessie didn’t feature because of a slight injury.

Xavi then added that Kessie ‘knows exactly’ what his transfer situation is, hardly ruling out a summer exit.

“Kessie didn’t play due to some slight discomfort. As for his future, he knows exactly what the situation is,” said Xavi.

Kessie only started seven league games last season, failing to nail down a key role after joining on a free transfer from Milan.

The 26-year-old looks unlikely to feature any more regularly this season and it may be best if he leaves.

Catalan newspaper SPORT suggested last week that Tottenham were seriously considering rivalling Juventus for Kessie’s signature.

The Times backed up those claims, suggesting that Tottenham are interested in signing Kessie.

The Ivorian impressed as a box-to-box player at Milan and could play that role in Ange Postecoglou’s 4-3-3 at Tottenham.

Tottenham may need to move out a midfielder or two first with Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Tanguy Ndombele seemingly available.

It sounds like Kessie has been told that he can go if he receives a good offer and Tottenham are a team to keep a close eye on in the final month of the transfer window.
