The Spanish press insist Barcelona star Xavi is on his way to Manchester City via New York but the player’s agent rejects the rumours.
Despite Xavi’s agent, Ivan Corretja, insisting that links with Manchester City are untrue, the Spanish press maintain that he was in Manchester two weeks ago to talk to City officials.
It is suggested that Xavi may end up moving via City’s linked US side New York City, following the Frank Lampard model.
However, Corretja is keen to discourage such talk at this stage.
“Xavi is happy at the club and the coaching staff are happy with him – he will not leave in January,” he told the Spanish newspaper.
“It is true I was in Manchester but not to talk about Xavi.”
Xavi is now 34 and there is speculation that his dominant time in La Liga may be drawing to a close.
However, it has been suggested that Barcelona boss Luis Enrique has promised Xavi more playing time later in the season to keep him happy.
