The former Liverpool midfielder has backed the Ibrox boss to bring success to Rangers.

Alonso is a double UEFA Champions League winner, including once with Gerrard installed as his captain at Anfield.
He believes the attributes he saw from the Gers boss during his playing days as set him up on the path for success as a manager too.
So far Gerrard hasn’t managed to deliver that, but now top of the Scottish Premiership, there’s real hope amongst supporters that this is the season to do it.
Alonso reckons silverware could be right around the corner.
As quoted by The Daily Record, he said: “He was such a humble guy, such a friendly guy, you could rely on him on and off the pitch – and the Rangers players are fortunate to have that.
“He is interested in making the people he works with better players and if they want to improve there is nobody better to learn from.
“I am sure trophies are just around the corner for Rangers now Stevie is there. I am sure he is going to achieve special things at Rangers.
“Stevie was not a normal player and he will not be a normal coach. He is a winner and will be a winner as a coach.”
Is silverware on the cards this season?
That Alonso is tipping Gerrard to finally deliver major honours to Ibrox should be exciting for fans. He knows the man well and understands that the Gers boss has the kind of winning mentality that the club needs.
One of Rangers’ big failings last term was their cup record, exiting both the Scottish League Cup and Scottish Cup earlier than they would have liked.

Already into a semi-final this year though and storming to the top of the Scottish Premiership, there’s no reason to think they can’t replicate that this term.
If they do win trophies, they’ll likely have to go through Celtic at Hampden, which is no easy feat and could see the Gers rely on luck as much as their ability. One off occasions at the national stadium can rarely be predicted.
