Wyndham Clark’s second US Open win must have been bittersweet.

On one hand, it was a rise back to the top. Clark was a shell of himself in 2025, finishing outside of the top 40 in three of the four major championships and getting himself in trouble with explosions at Quail Hollow and Oakmont Country Club.

But on the other hand, one of the greatest moments of his sporting life was met by indifference from the New York crowd, who wanted anyone but Clark to win at Shinnecock Hills.

This didn’t seem to bother Clark, who made no complaints about the crowd after his win. Having reflected on his second US Open victory for a day, Clark took to social media to share his full thoughts on the event.

Wyndham Clark thanks New York crowd during social media statement

Having spent Monday celebrating his win, Clark took to social media that evening to share his honest reflections on his week at Shinnecock. And he sent a message to the New York fans in his post.

Clark posted to X, “I’m not sure I’ve found the words yet.

“If I’m being honest, last year wasn’t filled with many highs. There were a lot more questions than answers, a lot more frustration than celebration, and plenty of moments that tested my belief in myself. This game can be incredibly humbling.

“It doesn’t owe you anything, and sometimes the only thing you can do is keep showing up and trust that the work will eventually pay off. That’s why this week means so much.

How did you feel about the New York crowd's treatment of Wyndham Clark?

“To the fans, thank you for making this championship what it is. New York crowds are passionate, honest, and demanding. Whether you were pulling for me or not, you created an atmosphere I’ll never forget and pushed all of us to compete at our best.

“Thank you to the @USGA, the members of Shinnecock Hills, the volunteers, and every person behind the scenes who made this week so special. This place is everything a U.S. Open should be, and I’m incredibly honored to have my name connected to it forever.

“To my team, family, friends, and sponsors, thank you for staying in my corner through the difficult stretches. Thank you for believing in me on the days when believing wasn’t easy.

“This trophy means more because of the road it took to get here. The setbacks, the doubts, and the hard days all make this moment that much sweeter.

“I’ll never forget this week, this place, and what it feels like to stand here as a two-time U.S. Open Champion.

“Forever grateful. 🏆 #PLAYBIG”

Wyndham Clark said how he felt about the fans rooting against him

Clark isn’t your typical golf villain. Unlike players like Patrick Reed, who seem to relish the toxic environment and give it back to the fans, Clark doesn’t want to be in that role. He wants to be liked.

He said it “sucks” being rooted against, but he leaned on his past experience to get him through it.

Speaking after his US Open win, Clark said, “I was kind of making jokes about it with Dave where if we heard someone cheer for me, I’d go, oh, there’s one person that likes me. So we would kind of make jokes and make it maybe a little light-hearted.

“But it’s tough, man. I’ve played in the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup on foreign soil, and it kind of had that atmosphere a little bit.

“I also got good prep last week in Canada. They were pretty harsh on me the last day, so I think that all of that combined kind of led to this moment where, all right, I’ve been in this position.

“It sucks being the underdog or getting rooted against, but I can pull through, and there’s nothing like winning kind of an away game, if you will.”

If anything, it prepares him well for a road Ryder Cup next year in Ireland if Jim Furyk decides to give him a call-up.
