Wyndham Clark will enter the final round of the US Open on Sunday with a six-stroke lead over Scottie Scheffler.

Clark has played some truly magnificent golf this week at Shinnecock Hills.

However, there’s no doubt that he would have preferred someone else other than Scheffler to be alongside him in the final group on Sunday.

Wyndham Clark has putted incredibly well during the first three rounds of the US Open at Shinnecock Hills, and he will be confident that his six-shot lead over Scottie Scheffler is enough with just one round left to play.

However, he certainly didn’t have things all his own way.

Clark was actually receiving abuse at times from the US Open crowd, and he did incredibly well to retain his full focus during what was a really challenging day on the links.

Wyndham Clark says how he feels about Scottie Scheffler pairing at the US Open

Clark got the better of Scheffler at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson last month after the 32-year-old shot a scintillating round of 60.

Now he will be hoping to do the same at Shinnecock on Sunday.

But is he relishing the challenge of playing alongside the world number one?

Yeah. Scottie is the best player in the world, and he’s going to play probably really good. He always does, but it’s nice to have a six-shot lead on him, Clark admitted.

But really I’m just going to keep approaching it the same way. If I go out and execute and go through my process and hit the shots I know I can hit, I like my chances.

But yeah, we’ll address that when we get to it. I’m not necessarily thinking about my lead or anything. It’s more of, hey, if I can get to this number, I like my chances.

Wyndham Clark compares his mentality now to the 2023 US Open

Clark spoke to reporters after his third round and responded when asked whether he has a different mentality now to the one he had when he won the 2023 US Open at Los Angeles Country Club.

Yeah, I would say I’m definitely a lot more confident and believe I can do it, he replied.

I’d say in ’23 there were still doubts. Not necessarily doubts, but I hadn’t done it, so there was a lot of unknown.

Now that I have done it, I know I can do it, and I can do it again.

So I’ll definitely lean on that experience and other experiences from when I’ve won that, hey, I can break through and do this again.
