One Boston Celtics legend showed love to fellow Massachusetts icon John Cena after he retired from WWE.
This weekend, the world witnessed the end of John Cena’s iconic WWE career, after he lost his last match to Gunther in Washington, D.C.
Over the years, Cena has become a pop-culture icon. As such, many figures from the sports and entertainment world took time to congratulate the legendary wrestler on his retirement.
Robert Parish shouts out John Cena over Boston Celtics fandom
Over the weekend, several sports teams congratulated John Cena on social media while using a picture of the former WWE champion in a jersey of their team from his early days.
Robert Parish found the Boston Celtics’ post of John Cena, where he was wearing the iconic 00 jersey that Parish made famous in Boston.
He joked that the superstar looked good, and in a follow-up post, congratulated the superstar on his career inside and outside the ring.
“Mr. Cena, I like your choice of jersey number and congrats on a great career in and of the ring!!”
John Cena is a massive fan of the Boston Celtics
Having grown up right outside of Boston in West Newbury, MA, John Cena got to witness the iconic 1980s Boston Celtics.
Getting to see Larry Bird, Robert Parish, and Kevin McHale dominate the NBA and win multiple championships made an impression on the young man.
Later in his career, when he adopted throwback jerseys into his persona, Cena made sure to wear a Celtics jersey every time he was in Boston.
And most recently, during his final appearance in Boston, Cena was clad in the Celtics’ green and white as a tribute.
