Manchester City beat Swansea City 2-1 in the EFL Cup, but it was not all good news as they suffered a scare with Vincent Kompany leaving the field in injury time.

With Pep Guardiola having made all three substitutions, the City captain left the field, raising concerns that his injury concerns are not a thing of the past.

Having spent the last five months out injured, the Belgian international was starting his first game for City this season, and while there remains a concern for Kompany and how serious the injury could be, no confirmation has been given yet on the situation.

But despite the setback that saw the defender leave the field, City progressed to the fifth round of the League Cup, where they will face Manchester United after goals from Gael Clichy and Aleix Garcia Serrano, who grabbed his first senior goal for club.

Guardiola made nine changes to the side that beat Bournemouth 4-0 in the Premier League, and City dominated the game throughout, with 60% possession, creating 9 shots on goal, with 4 on target, compared to Swansea’s 40% possession and 7 shots on goal, with 4 on target.

But while Gylif Sigurdsson grabbed an injury-time consolation goal, it was the moment that saw Kompany reaching for his hamstring that will worry City supporters.
