Robert Snodgrass scored an injury-time free kick to give Hull City a 1-1 draw with Burnley in the Premier League this weekend.

Snodgrass rounded off a good week, where he had scored a hat-trick in Scotland’s 5-1 win over Malta, with the free kick in the 95th minute to rescue a point for the Tigers that gives further proof to the argument that they are ready and prepared to fight for their place in the Premier League.

The Scotland midfielder was Hull’s saviour after he hit a 20-yard free kick after Ben Mee had fouled Tom Huddlestone deep in to injury-time at Turf Moor.

Burnley had taken the lead in the 72nd minute when midfielder Steven Defour scored with a 25-yard solo effort that looked to have decided the game, until Snodgrass had his say.

On Defour’s performance, Burnley manager Sean Dyche said as reported by the BBC: “I was pleased with performance. We started a bit edgy but built into the game. It’s the way it goes. It is the reality of football. It was a game of few chances and cagey.

“He (Defour) was a cheap as chips – have you not seen what is happening in the Premier League? He is a fine player.”

The draw now leaves Hull in an impressive seventh place in the Premier League table, and much has been made of the start that caretaker manager Mike Phelan’s side have made, with many people predicting they would struggle.
