Derby County FC fans took to Twitter to voice their opinions on the loss to local rivals Burton Albion in the Championship Friday night.

Jackson Irvine scored the only goal as Burton Albion beat local rivals Derby County in the Championship in the first competitive meeting between the two sides.

Irvine’s 12th minute strike proved enough at the Pirelli Stadium to give Nigel Clough’s side the lead. Despite Derby calling on substitutes James Wilson and Darren Bent, they couldn’t find the breakthrough as Burton claimed all three points. The win has seen Burton leapfrog their local rivals in the table, with Burton now in 6th place and Derby in 17th.

Derby dominated the the majority of the game and manager Nigel Pearson will be wondering how his side didn’t make the breakthrough. The Rams had 64% possession compared to Burton’s 36%, with Derby also having 10 shots on goal. Ultimately it was Irvine, however, who headed the only goal after meeting a Lucas Akins cross to put Burton ahead.

After the game The BBC reported that Pearson said: “The levels of performance tonight is not what we are looking for, they are not good enough and not consistent enough.

“I accept we have players out of form and who are struggling to deal with game situations, but we have to work our way through that.”

Clough said: “These are the sorts of games that as players you look forward to.

“It’s three points on the board and now we need another 43 and not 46 like we did at the start of night.”
