Tim Sherwood told his fellow pundit Shaun Wright-Phillips that he is ‘wrong’ to suggest that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane won’t break Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goals record.
The former England winger thinks it won’t happen, not because Kane will leave English football, but he just thinks it’s too much of an ask and injuries will also play their part.
Of course, Sherwood, who is perhaps Kane’s biggest fan, shutdown those claims and says there is ‘no reason why’ he will leave the Premier League and he will surpass 260 goals.

On Sunday, Kane scored Premier League goal number 200 – joining Wayne Rooney and Shearer on that exclusive list – as well as becoming Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscorer with 267, surpassing the great Jimmy Greaves when his side beat Manchester City 1-0.
That’s some achievement for Kane and it’s deserving given the performances he has produced for years and years now.
The next big one is Shearer’s 260 and Sherwood, who captained the TV pundit during their title-winning days at Blackburn Rovers, thinks it’s coming to an end, as he told Premier League Productions (05/02/23 at 1:40 pm).
“They are both (Shearer and Kane) two of the best,” said Sherwood. “That’s why their numbers are so good.
“I still think Shaun is wrong. I think that he will break his record. I think Harry Kane will eventually break his record. But he needs to stay in the Premier League.
“But, at the moment, he has no signs of leaving the Premier League, which we are all pleased about.”

KANE V SHEARER
When the Spurs legend hangs up his boots, then there will be serious debates as to who you would pick between the two – Kane and Shearer.
In actual fact, you could have that debate right now because the two are very similar in style.
In terms of pure striking and goalscoring ability, they are as ruthless as each other.
But to think, if Kane remains trophyless, then there could be 500+ goals between the two, but only one league title, which is just criminal.
