Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to react after Callum Wilson sat down with The Telegraph to talk about his debut season on Tyneside.

Unfortunately, the £20 million man seems to have upset a few supporters with what he said.

You can understand why some have come away from The Telegraph‘s interview feeling a bit annoyed.

Wilson said: “I think with fans in the stadium then it would have been even more difficult. It was probably best for us, at that time, there weren’t fans inside the stadium because it was hard enough without the extra demands they would have made.

“If you’re getting boos and stuff going on, it doesn’t help the players or the management. It was a blessing in disguise at that stage. He (Bruce) definitely deserves a chance to come back. I don’t know why you would change something that is working.”

Now, after fans have spent over a year away from St James’ Park, this isn’t what they’d like to be hearing.

Yes, fans do put more pressure on the players, but it’s for the greater good.

After all, fans, players and staff members are all pulling in the same direction.

To hear Wilson say it was a blessing that fans weren’t inside the stadium does make sense, but it can evidently be taken the wrong way.

The 29-year-old also said that Steve Bruce deserves a chance to come back from Newcastle’s awful form this season.

Strangely, Wilson added that he doesn’t know why anyone would want to change something that is working.

If fans weren’t annoyed at his remarks on booing, his comments on Bruce will have surely infuriated them.

In truth, his words are a bit baffling – what exactly does Wilson think is working?

Apart from a Joe Willock inspired run of form, 2021 has largely been a dismal year for the Magpies.

Let’s not forget that Newcastle won just two games in 21 outings at one stage.

If Wilson thinks that is a sign of Bruce’s system working, then that’s certainly cause for concern.

Let’s see what the Newcastle fans on Twitter have been saying about his comments…
