Shaka Hislop has told ESPN that Nuno Espirito Santo would send the ‘wrong message’ if Harry Kane starts for Tottenham against Manchester City on Sunday.
It just had to be written in the script for Spurs that they face the very same club that wants to sign Kane this summer.
All of that drama hasn’t been helped by Kane having to come out on Twitter and defend claims that he has been boycotting training in order to force a move.
Well, the Englishman is back at Hotspur Way and Nuno told Sky Sports that he expects him to be available for their showdown against Man City at the weekend.
Former Premier League goalkeeper, Hislop, thinks authority will be lost from Nuno’s side if Kane is named in the starting XI.
“If this is the backdrop and there is any truth to Spurs’ stance about Harry Kane and his return,” said Hislop. “I don’t see how Nuno includes in his starting XI.
“I just feel that sends absolutely the wrong message. It says that Harry Kane is in charge. It says Nuno has to do what Harry Kane dictates.
“Then spin over to that is the message to the rest of the dressing room and who is in charge.
“That, for me, is something that even with a new manager coming never really gets back. If that’s his first salvo – you can’t afford to lose authority in the dressing room in your first official game in charge.”

Even if Kane doesn’t start at the weekend then he will surely come off the bench and it will be interesting to see the reception he gets from the home fans.
Those rumours about Man City won’t go away until the transfer window slams shut on August 31, or until he makes a move, or dare it be said, signs a new Spurs contract.
With Daniel Levy at the helm, anything is possible, but one thing is for sure, he will do things his way and his way only.
That’s why Kane is still a Spurs player and a certain Pep Guardiola isn’t getting the chance to buy every top player in the league.
