The Congolese midfielder has returned to Ligue 1 with Bastia despite making an impression on Wolverhampton Wanderers fans.

As Paul Lambert looks to mould a squad capable of turning Wolves’ dismal season into something more respectable, there was always going to be casualties.

As reported by the Express and Star, Ola John’s loan has already been terminated with Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Joao Teixeira not far behind him, while Paul Gladon has done very little in just three appearances to suggest he can survive the January cull.

Nonetheless, few fans were expecting, or hoping, that powerful midfielder Prince Oniangue would find himself caught up in Lambert’s axe-swinging frenzy.

The former Reims midfielder, who arrived for £2 million in the summer according to the Express and Star, had not featured in a single second of action since mid-October due to injury.

Yet, in the 11 appearances that Oniangue did feature in Wolves colours, fans were left relatively impressed by his all-round game so the news that he has returned to Ligue 1 on loan with Bastia hasn’t gone down too well in the West Midlands.

After all, there were more than a few players outperformed by the Congolese international this season.
