Arsene Wenger has lauded Tottenham striker Harry Kane and how he made the ‘wrong decision’ to wear an Arsenal shirt as a kid, as he told BeIN Sports

There is a well-documented and infamous photo of Kane wearing an Arsenal shirt as a kid and given that he is now the Tottenham captain, it’s surely one of his biggest regrets.

It would have been interesting to see what it would have been like for Kane had he remained on the red side of North London and what would have become of his career.

Ex-Gunners boss Wenger lavished praise about the Englishman’s quality and the ‘speed of his vision’.

Wenger even admitted that he would like ‘all’ top-players to be wearing the colours of the Red and White, as he reacted to a question about him getting away from Arsenal’s grasp.

“A player like that is always solicited by other clubs,” said Wenger. “He always has to assess his situation. I think up until now. He is a real top leader at Tottenham and in the England national team.

“I respect highly his commitment and his quality. What I like is that today he could basically play as a number 10 because of the quality of his assists, the speed of his vision and the execution on the speed of his long balls is exceptional.

On Kane in an Arsenal shirt as a kid: “That’s where he made the wrong decision. I know about this story but he was very young. Nine years old, something like that.

On Kane getting away: “The history of football clubs is full of players who missed and became top stars. Unfortunately, I would like them all to be in red and white.”

Kane was in action for Spurs on Sunday as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal.

For large parts of the game, he was quiet before he started to come to life during the final 15 minutes of the match, including striking the post from a dead-ball situation.

In the end, it was a deserved victory for Arsenal, who walk away with the bragging rights of North London, for now, and serious pressure will now be on Jose Mourinho to deliver during these final few months, else he may have to head for the exit door.
