Ian Wright’s comments about Houssem Aouar have got some Arsenal fans talking on Twitter.

The Gunners spent most of last summer chasing the Lyon midfielder but dropped out of the race after two failed bids.

Arsenal, whose highest offer was £35 million, wound up making Thomas Partey their marquee signing after splurging £45 million on the former Atletico Madrid powerhouse.

But according to club legend Wright, the North Londoners remain interested.

Their former hitman told Premier League productions: “If Partey can continue to improve, like players improve with coaching, and then he’s able to add to that with Aouar, who they’re trying to get in the midfield alongside Partey, then you’ve got someone who can create for the forwards.”

Here’s how Arsenal fans reacted to Wright’s comments on social media:

The January transfer window will be open for business in a couple of months.

But logically, it’s difficult to see how Arsenal are going to afford Lyon’s £45 million valuation of Aouar this winter.

After all, the Emirates Stadium outfit have spent their Aouar fund on Partey, so unless owner Stan Kroenke bankrolls the same amount of money for the France international then a January move makes little sense, even if Wright is correct and they do genuinely still want him.
