Ian Wright has said on Match of the Day on BBC One (11:39pm, September 11, 2021) that Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu played well on his debut against Norwich City yesterday.

The Arsenal legend believes that Tomiyasu, who was playing at right-back, was fantastic at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League game.

The BBC Match of the Day pundit has also praised Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who scored the only goal of the game in North London.

Arsenal won 1-0.

Wright said on Match of the Day on BBC One (11:39pm, September 11, 2021): “I thought he (Tomiyasu) had a fantastic debut. I thought Aubameyang looked sharp.”

Encouraging performances

Tomiyasu was making his debut for Arsenal yesterday.

The Japan international defender joined the Gunners from Bologna in the summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old can play as a centre-back or as a right-back.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta played the Japanese defender as a right-back yesterday.

Tomiyasu looked threatening going forward and also defended well.

The right-back took two shots, had a pass accuracy of 69%, won seven headers, took 49 touches, attempted one dribble, made one tackle and two clearances, and put in one cross.

As for Aubameyang, the striker will be pleased to have scored.

The former Borussia Dortmund star did have other chances, and he will be a bit disappointed that he could not add to his tally.

The striker took six shots and only two of them were on target.
