Arsenal striking legend Ian Wright compares Alexis Sanchez to former Liverpool star.
Liverpool tried to sign Alexis Sanchez this summer as a replacement for Luis Suarez, only to be beaten to his signature by Arsenal instead.
The Chilean has been in impressive form this season, scoring four goals for the club in all competitions.
Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright however believes it is not just his goalscoring which makes him so special, but his work rate, comparing him to two Premier League greats.
He told The Sun: “Alexis Sanchez reminds me very much of a Carlos Tevez or Luis Suarez with his class and work ethic.”
With Wright’s comments in mind, here is a look at how the trio compare in terms of their defensive work.
| Team | Possession won final third / per game | Won Tackles / per game | Interceptions / per game | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Luis Suarez | Liverpool | 0.94 | 0.9 | 0.4 |
| Alexis Sánchez | Arsenal | 0.83 | 1.17 | 1 |
| Carlos Tévez | Man City | 0.53 | 0.53 | 0.3 |
In three key areas, Sanchez comes out on top compared to both players, showing why he is an ideal player for Arsene Wenger to utilise in attack.
The Frenchman prefers to play him out wide rather than through the centre, and this is a clear illustration of why.
With the work rate and skill of Luis Suarez, Sanchez comes with none of the Uruguayan’s controversy, and is already looking to be an astute signing.
