Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after spotting Joël Matip at the AXA Training Centre, as he steps up his recovery from an ankle injury.

The 29-year-old hasn’t played for the Reds since January 28th, when he was forced off during the first-half of a 3-1 win over Tottenham.

Matip damaged his ankle ligaments. However, he now looks fit enough to at least start jogging around the AXA Training Centre.

How do we know he’s not in training?

Well, the fact he’s wearing trainers, and isn’t pictured with anyone else, suggests the £100,000-a-week man is just doing some individual work.

In truth, who knows.

We’re only saying that because Jürgen Klopp claimed Matip’s injury would rule him out for the season, so it would be miraculous if he’s already fit enough to partake in full-contact training.

Even for the 27-cap Cameroon international to be out running is slightly baffling, after Klopp made the revelation back in February.

Nevertheless, it’s great to see Matip back involved in some capacity.

Hopefully, he can get himself match fit very soon, and still have a part to play in Liverpool’s race for the top four.

Klopp has been left with only Ozan Kabak, Nat Phillips, Ben Davies and Rhys Williams in Matip’s absence.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez still haven’t returned from their own issues.

Liverpool’s centre-back department has suffered an absolute fitness nightmare this season – Klopp must still be in disbelief after losing his three best options for lengthy time periods.

The Reds are, at least, looking to ensure this doesn’t happen again by bringing RB Leipzig’s Ibrahima Konaté to Anfield.

Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that Liverpool have agreed personal terms with the Frenchman, and will pay his release clause.

For now, let’s see how the Liverpool fans on Twitter reacted to seeing Matip back at the AXA Training Centre…
