Everton fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club posted highlights of Ben Godfrey’s season so far.
The England Under-21 international is currently embarking on his debut campaign in the Premier League, and it looks like he’s been here for a decade.
Godfrey – a £25 million signing from Norwich – has started 20 of Everton’s 28 Premier League games this season, and has done superbly.
As the club’s video reinforces, the 23-year-old isn’t afraid to get stuck in to his fellow Premier League players.
Godfrey also isn’t afraid to get on the ball and surge up the pitch.
He is an incredible athlete, and when he gets going, his long strides up the field make everyone else look like they’re running in slow motion.
One fan below said this footage is what Jürgen Klopp shows Virgil van Dijk, implying that the Dutchman could learn a lot from Godfrey.
Another described the Toffees No.22 as Everton’s best signing in years, while one more fan said he’s better than Liverpool’s Joe Gomez.
There’s a serious case to be made for Godfrey being the club’s best signing in recent memory.
He is already playing at a seriously high level, and will surely become even better seeing as he’s only 23.
He’s also versatile. Godfrey can operate at either centre-back or centre-midfield, while he can also play right-back if need be.
