Some Manchester City fans have been reacting on social media to reports by Corrie dello Sport, claiming Inter Milan are considering a move to sign Benjamin Mendy this summer.

The Serie A champions are considering a raft of options from the Premier League who can strengthen Simone Inzaghi’s squad. The Nerazzurri have lost one left-wing-back since lifting the Scudetto with Ashley Young joining Aston Villa after his contract expired.

Young featured 26 times under Antonio Conte in the Italian top-flight last term, with only Ivan Perisic starting more games on the left-hand channel as they shared the role. Inzaghi is now eying options from the Premier League to replace the Englishman and defend the title.

Inter Milan are considering Manchester City’s Mendy, Manchester United’s Alex Telles and Liverpool’s Konstantinos Tsimikas. All struggled to play leading roles for their respective sides last season, featuring 13, nine and two times in the Premier League respectively.

Mendy additionally started 11 of his top-flight outings, of which five came in the final nine games of the season. Before opening the action at Fulham in March, the 26-year-old had only played nine minutes since mid-December, coming in the prior win over Southampton.

But the Frenchman only has 24-months remaining on the £90,000-per-week, six-year contract signed upon his arrival in 2017. Manchester City paid Monaco £52m for Mendy in 2017, making him the world’s most expensive defender at the time.

But the 10-cap international has since made just 73 appearances across all competitions during an injury-ravished career with the Citizens. His most appearances for a Premier League campaign came during 2019/20 when he turned out 19 times for 1,496 minutes.

But plenty of Manchester City fans would be glad to see their side sell Mendy amid interest from Inter Milan. That’s because many have shared that it would be good for all sides, with the Citizens recouping funds, the Nerazzurri get depth and Mendy secures a new start.

Others are also less concerned over the fee Inter Milan would pay Manchester City to sign Mendy. While a few are not troubled over who Pep Guardiola would replace the Frenchman with in his squad, despite the Spaniard once calling him ‘extraordinary’, via mancity.com.
