Cesc Fabregas has admitted that it’s a ‘big shame’ to see Jack Wilshere’s career now in comparison to when he first burst on to the scene at Arsenal.

Wilshere had a stunning first season with the Gunners during the 2010-11 campaign.

The England international was only 18 at the time but a show-stopping midfield display against Barcelona in the Champions League illustrated that he had a major future in football.

But Arsenal released their academy product in the summer of 2018 during Unai Emery’s reign and the same fate has happened again at West Ham United in recent months, leaving him without a club right now.

Injuries have disrupted what could have been a phenomenal career if not for the lengthy absences.

And Fabregas, who played alongside Wilshere at Arsenal during his breakthrough season, has admitted that he now feels sorry for his old team-mate.

He told The Daily Mail: “He was just 16 when he first came to train with us and I was like “wow this guy is good, strong, sharp. It’s a big shame what has happened to him, I feel sorry because he could have been a proper English legend of the game.”

Wilshere, at 28, is certainly going to find a new club sooner or later, but his fitness issues mean that it’ll be difficult to make forward strides i.e he won’t be joining a bigger team than the Emirates Stadium side.

He publicly declared earlier this month that he wouldn’t join Arsenal’s North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur if they came knocking, and they weren’t going to anyway, but one club will and hopefully for it’ll work out.
