Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to laud Eddie Nketiah after he equalled Alan Shearer’s goalscoring record for the England Under-21 side.

As The Evening Standard have previously reported, the Gunners centre-forward was sitting on 12 goals before today’s meeting with Andorra, before his well-taken strike saw him equal the Newcastle legend’s tally.

To equal the record of such an iconic striker is no mean feat, so the 21-year-old deserves credit for being so clinical for Aidy Boothroyd’s side.

Nketiah now has eight goals in his last four games for the Three Lions Under-21 side, and has netted twice for Arsenal this season including a late winner against West Ham in the Premier League.

If he carries on this way, then it could presumably be just a matter of time until Gareth Southgate hands him a chance to shine alongside the likes of Harry Kane, Jadon Sancho and Raheem Sterling.

Across his embryonic career so far, the Gunners academy graduate has a fine goalscoring record.

Nketiah has 60 goals in 120 appearances according to Transfermarkt, which works out at an impressive rate of a goal every two games.

It might take him a bit longer to reach another record of Shearer’s – the ex-Blackburn striker is the Premier League’s all-time top scorer with 260 goals to his name.

However, if Nketiah keeps on firing and remains at Arsenal, there’s no reason why he can’t get close to that tally.

Let’s see what the Arsenal fans on Twitter have been saying about his achievement…
