Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club announced that Gary O’Neil had left his role in the Under-23 set-up to join Bournemouth.
The 37-year-old has taken a first-team coaching role with the Cherries, following the appointment of Jonathan Woodgate as Head Coach.
O’Neil joined the Reds in August 2020 as assistant to Barry Lewtas in the Under-23 set-up, but he hasn’t stayed for long before leaving Merseyside.
The former West Ham man has lasted just seven months before departing his role with the Premier League champions.
It’s a shame to see him go – one fan echoes that point.
O’Neil boasts a vast amount of top-flight experience, having made 214 Premier League appearances for West Ham, Norwich, Middlesbrough and Portsmouth.

However, a first-team role is infinitely better than a role in the Under-23s, so you can’t blame the ex-Hammer for making his decision.
Now, a few fans seem worried after this news.
After O’Neil left without spending a year in his role, one fan thinks there’s something the club are hiding from supporters.

Another asked ‘what is going on’ while one other fan claimed there’s ‘something going on’ behind the scenes at Liverpool.
There’s no need for conspiracies, in our view – it’s very feasible that a coach would prefer a first-team role over an Under-23 one.
Let’s see how some other Liverpool fans reacted to the news…
