Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter in disbelief after seeing what Michael Owen tweeted following Manchester City’s Premier League title win.

Leicester’s 2-1 victory at Old Trafford secured a fifth Premier League title for the Citizens, and Owen decided to praise them after full-time.

You can see what the BT Sport pundit tweeted below.

Now, at first glance, there isn’t really much wrong with Owen’s tweet.

However, when you remember he’s an ambassador for Liverpool, you can see why his tweet has upset some of the Anfield faithful.

Some Liverpool fans seem annoyed at how happy Owen looks about Manchester City’s title win.

One supporter said they can’t believe Owen thought it was a good idea to post such a tweet, while another simply called it embarrassing.

Admittedly, the way in which he’s holding the red ribbons, tweeting ‘these are about to turn blue’, isn’t the wisest idea from Liverpool’s club ambassador.

Aside from Liverpool, Owen also used to play for Manchester United, so we presume the Old Trafford faithful aren’t too happy with their ex-striker piling praise on their bitter rivals.

Of course, Owen can tweet whatever he wants.

Having said that, his relationship with Liverpool fans isn’t exactly the best anyway after he joined Manchester United.

In that respect, he should be careful about what he tweets in order not to burn his bridges at Anfield even more.

In future, perhaps a mere congratulatory tweet will suffice, without a photo of him smiling in anticipation of removing his former side’s colours from the trophy.

Let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter have been saying about Owen’s tweet…
