Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after Jürgen Klopp commented on the incident involving himself and Sadio Mané at Old Trafford.
At full-time, Liverpool’s No.10 could be seen ignoring Klopp as he went to give him a fist bump, before storming away from his manager.
The Athletic’s James Pearce quotes Klopp as saying: “If somebody shows me five million times respect and one time not, what is more important? I hope for you that your boss, if you one time don’t show him respect, doesn’t forget the other stuff.”
Mané was left upset by the German, presumably because he left him on the bench for what was a crucial game against Manchester United.
Klopp eventually brought the Senegal international on in the 74th minute.
However, it didn’t seem like 16 minutes was enough to keep the £100,000-a-week forward happy at full-time, nor was the three points.
Despite being blanked by his own player in front of the watching world, Klopp has handled this situation superbly.
Mané is experiencing his worst run of form for many seasons.
The ex-Southampton attacker only has nine Premier League goals this season in 32 appearances.
In 35 Premier League appearances last term, he scored 18 goals.
The season before that, Mané impressively scored 22 goals.
As a result, he’s undoubtedly going to be annoyed, and his temper is perhaps much shorter than it usually is.
Klopp is an experienced manager, and an exquisite man-manager too.
He has superbly diffused the situation here, and done so in a way that hasn’t berated Mané or left either of them looking weaker.
Simply put, Klopp just gets how to communicate with his players.
