Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react after hearing how Miguel Azeez has fared at Portsmouth in recent weeks.
What’s the story?
Well, back in August, Portsmouth signed Azeez on a season-long loan from Arsenal, although things haven’t exactly gone smoothly.
The 19-year-old has made just two starts in League One, and another appearance from the bench as he struggles for game time.
However, in recent weeks, things have started to improve for the teenager under Danny Cowley at Fratton Park.
Azeez started the 1-0 win over Wycombe on Saturday 13th November, and also started the EFL Trophy clash with Crystal Palace U23 on Tuesday 9th November.
Pompey won that tie 3-0, with Azeez scoring a goal.
Portsmouth also beat Harrow Borough 1-0 in the FA Cup on Saturday 6th November.
It’s the first time Portsmouth have won three games in a row this season, and coincidentally, the first time Azeez has had a run in the starting XI.
What should Arsenal do with Miguel Azeez?
Azeez’s upturn in form is hugely encouraging, as Mikel Arteta and Edu were surely starting to feel they’d maybe wasted a season of his career.
Now, if he can continue to impress in League One before the season ends, he could stake a claim for a first-team place at the Emirates Stadium.
In our view, Arteta and Edu should be preparing him to do just that.
The Gunners are currently quite light in midfield. Granit Xhaka, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Martin Ødegaard, Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny are the only options for Arteta.
In that respect, there should be opportunities for Azeez to impress in cup competitions, should he stay at London Colney next season.
