Leeds United are on a roll like no other and they will be looking to target the open wounds of Chelsea in the FA Cup on Wednesday night.

The Elland Road faithful will be hoping this will be a Premier League fixture next season because they have every chance of making a return after beating leaders Leicester City on Friday night.

Some may now back Daniel Farke’s side to earn that final automatic spot – they are level on points with third-placed Ipswich Town – but Chris Sutton has gone one step further and he is backing Leeds United to win the Championship outright.

That left former Leicester City midfielder Robbie Savage surprised, as he proceeded to ask his fellow pundit on several occasions if he really meant what he said, as he told 606.

As of this moment, the Yorkshire side are sitting six points behind the Foxes, who also have a better goal difference, despite losing back-to-back games.

If Leeds are to do the unthinkable, then they need their promotion rivals to lose more games and given that they have lost 6 from 34, then it’s going to take some doing.

Whilst the Leeds fans believe, so does Chris Sutton following their latest showing, but it seems as though his partner in crime needs to be convinced.

Leeds United to win the Championship?

“Chris, do you think Leeds and Leicester are the two who will go up,” asked Savage.

Sutton responded: “It looks that way. I fancy Leeds to win it.”

Savage expressed his shock: “Do you? To win the title? Wow. Leeds are going to win the Championship?! Woof.”

Leeds United at Chelsea for the FA Cup

After Chelsea’s League Cup final heartache at Wembley, this is Leeds’ chance to pounce on their current deflated mood.

The players are going to be on the floor and the last thing they need is a young, vibrant and highly-energy-charged team from Yorkshire making life even worse for them.

But what an opportunity this is for Leeds, they have nothing to lose and it’s pretty clear their bigger priority is securing promotion.

Given that the natives at Stamford Bridge might be a bit restless, then scoring that opening goal will certainly make things very interesting.
