Tony Cascarino feels Cody Gakpo is a ‘typical’ Liverpool signing as he fits Jurgen Klopp’s attacking wish list perfectly. The PSV Eindhoven star is now set to join the Reds in January.
Gakpo excelled at the World Cup in Qatar with three goals as the Netherlands reached the quarter-finals this winter. The 23-year-old has also flourished in Eindhoven in recent years since establishing a first-team role at PSV. He has 55 goals and 50 assists over 159 games.

Of the Eindhoven native’s haul with his boyhood club, Gakpo has netted 13 and assisted 17 in 24 games this season. He hit home 21 and laid on 15 in 47 games last term. While Gakpo has also captained PSV in several games but he will now move to Liverpool during January.

PSV Eindhoven announce Gakpo will sign for Liverpool in the January window
PSV have announced that Gakpo will sign for Liverpool in January for a club-record fee. The Guardian reports the Dutch forward’s move is for an initial £37m. But the fee could rise to £50m after add-ons. He will travel to England after finalising an agreement on Boxing Day.
Gakpo is the latest attacking addition that Klopp has signed in successive January windows after Liverpool added Luis Diaz. The Reds raided FC Porto for the Colombia forward during the last winter sales. They also paid an initial £37.5m for Diaz, rising to £50m with add-ons.

But Klopp is now set to be without Diaz until possibly March after he required surgery, per the Liverpool Echo. The 25-year-old has had an operation on his lateral collateral ligament after suffering a setback in his recovery from an earlier knee injury he suffered in October.
Tony Cascarino sees Cody Gakpo as a ‘typical’ Jurgen Klopp signing
Liverpool will expect Gakpo to now fill Diaz’s void in Klopp’s offence after signing from PSV in the January window. But Cascarino is confident the Dutchman will add yet further goals to an already stacked attack and that the Oranje forward will suit Klopp’s system perfectly.

“Wow, more goals,” Cascarino told talkSPORT. “Just think, they’ve got Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez – who you’d like to think will chip in with more goals – and now Gakpo, who is only 23 years old.
“The most surprising thing about Gakpo is that he’s 6 ft 4 but he’s not your traditional centre-forward. He’s very athletic, he’s very quick.
“He’s so versatile that you can play him in any position in the forward line. And that’s typical of a Klopp signing, that he likes to use certain players in different positions.”
