Plymouth Argyle boss Ryan Lowe is thrilled about the impact Niall Ennis has made since joining from Wolverhampton Wanderers, telling the Herald that the striker has been in ‘outstanding’ form in League One.
After making just one brief first-team appearance in six years at Molineux, the 21-year-old wasted little time in putting pen to paper with an ambitious Plymouth side when the opportunity arose two months ago.
While a record of three goals in 11 games is far-from outstanding, Ennis has made a big impact at Home Park with his impressive work-ethic and his ability to play across the front line.
“I must say Niall was terrific. Wow, he was outstanding. You can put your trust in him anywhere on the pitch,” manager Lowe said after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Doncaster Rovers.
“He was outstanding in every way – his aggressiveness, his hold-up play, his running with the ball, his mentality.
“He has been on another level since he has come in the kid, to be fair to him. I don’t like singling anyone out but he has been different class.”
Ennis’s teammate, the much-coveted Luke Jephcott, drew another blank in Yorkshire, meaning he has not found the net for seven straight League One games.
The Sun claimed in February that seven clubs were keeping tabs on the Wales U21 international, including Sheffield Wednesday, Stoke City and Wayne Rooney’s Derby County.
Since those reports emerged, however, Jephcott is yet to score a single goal; his tally stuck on 16.
