Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to react after Patrick Bamford revealed what Sean Dyche said to him during his time on loan at Burnley.

In an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail, the Leeds No.9 spoke about how his background has impacted his career.

As the Daily Mail state, the ex-Chelsea striker came from a privileged background and even turned down a place at Harvard in favour of a career in football.

When discussing his lack of game time at Turf Moor, Bamford said: ‘It wasn’t an issue at Burnley until I started asking why I wasn’t playing and then the manager started citing other reasons: “born with a silver spoon in your mouth”, “listening to too many people influencing you outside of football”.

‘When I asked for an example, the answer was “who did you arrive with when you signed on your first day?” I said “my mum and dad” and he said “exactly”. Then I started getting defensive. I didn’t think that was right.’

Now, this is ludicrous from Dyche, if true.

How can you judge a player for bringing his parents along to watch him sign a contract with a Premier League club?

Dyche only handed the 27-year-old six Premier League appearances for Burnley, with none of those coming as starts.

In total, WhoScored shows he played just 34 minutes across those games.

It shouldn’t matter what background a footballer – or any person for that matter – has come from. They should only be judged on their abilities and mentality from a footballing sense, not their background.

To write someone off like this is baffling. Why did Dyche even sign Bamford if this is what he thought of the Grantham-born striker?

It’s especially pleasing to see Bamford now have the last laugh after we’ve discovered what Dyche said.

He is on fire right now with 12 goals in 23 Premier League appearances, while he’s also assisted five goals in England’s top-flight this term.

Let’s see how the Leeds fans on Twitter reacted to what Dyche said…
