Roberto Firmino was serenaded with a seemingly never-ending chant from the Liverpool supporters during their 3-0 win over Leicester City on Monday night at the King Power Stadium.

The soon-to-be-departing Liverpool forward didn’t feature because of injury, but Michael Owen did add that the Anfield faithful will ‘never forget’ what Roberto Firmino has given the club, as he told Premier League Productions (15/05/23 at 9:55 pm).

A Brendan Rodgers signing back in 2015 for £29 million (BBC Sport), he has gone on to win the lot on Merseyside.

Even during this current campaign, where Liverpool have had issues and Firmino has had injury problems, he still has nine Premier League goals and four assists from 23 Premier League games.

But, on Saturday, when the Reds, who have won seven on the bounce, welcome Unai Emery’s European-chasing Aston Villa to Anfield, it will be Firmino’s final home game of his Liverpool career – one thing is for sure, he won’t be joining another Premier League team.

Nonetheless, as the 31-year-old spends his final weeks in the colours of Liverpool, the supporters are making every minute count, which was touched upon by Michael Owen.

“Oh wow, yeah,” said Owen in reaction to Liverpool fans’ never-ending chant to Firmino. “Liverpool fans will never forget him. They will never forget what he has done. What a great period of time he spent there. He won every trophy there is to win and the fans are showing their appreciation.”

ROBERTO FIRMINO IS A LIVERPOOL LEGEND

A player with quick-thinking ability, outstanding first touch, superb vision and the ability to find his teammates at will. The unselfish nature of Firmino’s game will never be forgotten.

He has the trophies to back it up, and if it wasn’t for perhaps one of the greatest sides ever seen in English football, then this Liverpool team would have won a lot more.

Nonetheless, nearly a decade after joining, Firmino heads for the Liverpool exit door as a club legend.
