Manchester United fans have praised Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp after he stuck up for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over his latest team selection.
United named a severely weakened side against Leicester City on Tuesday night, which did not help Liverpool in their cause to claim a top four spot.
The Reds would surely have been hoping for a Leicester defeat, so that they could have closed the gap to the Champions League spots by winning tonight.
However, Solskjaer’s decision to rest key stars allowed Leicester to pick up a key 2-1 victory at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils boss was criticised heavily by some Liverpool fans for not putting out his strongest side.
But Klopp defended his managerial counterpart at Liverpool’s press conference yesterday, which was covered by the Manchester Evening News.
He said: “Would I have done the same? Yes. To play Sunday-Tuesday-Thursday is a crime. It’s not the fault of Solskjaer and players.”
And United fans were shocked to hear the Liverpool boss speaking up in defence of their manager.
Liverpool’s task tonight now becomes even clearer, after Leicester’s win.
Klopp’s men surely have to pick up the three points if they are to stand any chance of closing the gap and having Champions League football on offer next term.
