Laura Woods was left shocked that Unai Emery’s Aston Villa could possibly sign Marseille midfielder Matteo Guendouzi on transfer deadline day.
The popular sports presenter and Arsenal fan watched Guendouzi make a bit of a name for himself at the Emirates under Emery a number of years ago, before Mikel Arteta booted him out of the door for good in 2022.
Since then, the France international has made huge strides in his career, including being part of his nation’s run to the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar.

When Emery replaced Steven Gerrard in the Villa Park dugout, many felt that he would knock on the door of players he coached before.
Therefore, it wasn’t a surprise when Guendouzi’s name popped up as a possible target, but at this moment in time, the 23-year-old is still a Marseille player with no real movement.
But on talkSPORT Breakfast on Transfer Deadline Day (31/01/23), this was Laura Woods’ reaction to those Matteo Guendouzi rumours.
TalkSport reporter Dan Windle stated that ‘Matteo Guendouzi could end up at Aston Villa today’, to which she responded ‘wow, really?!’

GUENDOUZI WOULD BE A TOP PURCHASE
Villa are three points behind the European places and are hopeful of making a second half-of-the-season push for those top seven places.
If that doesn’t happen this season, then it will be the aim for the following campaign.
Emery is already proven in this department, so nobody is going to question his ability to reach those European goals, but can the current players on the club’s books deliver the goods?
Well, if the Midlands outfit sign Guendouzi before Tuesday’s cut-off, then he is a player that will increase those top-seven hopes, for sure.
