Speaking to Liverpool’s official club website, Jurgen Klopp has been waxing-lyrical about Joe Gomez after he signed his new contract with the Anfield outfit.
The defender put pen to paper on a new deal with Liverpool that will keep him at the club until 2027, and it’s fair to say that the manager was over the moon with this news.
Klopp was buzzing to see that Gomez had signed a new deal, and he had an exciting update to give on the defender’s pre-season so far.
Indeed, the gaffer says that Klopp has reported back to the AXA training ground in phenomenal shape.
What’s been said?
Klopp praised Gomez and his current condition.
“One of the many wonderful things about Joe is he has experience and youth – that’s not a bad combination. He has not long turned 25 but he was at the club before I was and I think after Hendo and Millie he is our longest-serving player. Incredible. But the best thing of all is that his best years are still to come and I could not be happier that this will happen with us,” Klopp said.
“In terms of right now, Joe is in phenomenal shape. We had a few weeks off and when I returned to AXA I saw him and my first thought was ‘Wow!’ Physically, he is in such a good place and now all he needs is a good pre-season and the rhythm that comes from this.
“Everything else is in place and I could not be happier that he will be staying with us for even longer.”

Great to hear
It’s fantastic to hear that Gomez has returned to pre-season in brilliant shape after a tough couple of years.
The defender picked up a season-ending injury midway through the 2020/21 campaign, and, sadly, he’s never been the same since.
However, after another summer of recovery, it sounds as though Gomez is back to his peak condition, and this season could be a big one for the centre-back.
Let’s hope that Gomez sees more regular football this term.
