Tottenham Hotspur fans think Jose Mourinho has sent a message to Daniel Levy through his comments about Japhet Tanganga.
Speaking to Football London, Mourinho said that he feels that Tanganga is no longer a central-defender.
He said: “For me, he’s a full-back…a multifunctional defensive players but [firstly] a full-back.”
With Tottenham tipped to be on the look out for a central defender in January, many supporters now think that Mourinho’s comments are a message to the board.
If Mourinho had counted Tanganga as a central defender then Spurs do look fairly well stocked in the position.
However, if the 22-year-old is now classed as a full-back, then their need for another centre-back becomes obvious.
Whether Tanganga actually agrees with Mourinho that he is better on the right-hand side of Tottenham’s defence rather than in the middle of it is very much up for debate.
The youngster has generally played at centre-back throughout his time in the youth system, but his versatility has already come in very handy now he is a first-team player.
