Speaking on the Pitch Side Podcast, Joe Gomez has been asked to name his all-time dream five-a-side team.
Gomez was given free rein to pick any player from all of history, from Pele to Diego Maradona to Lionel Messi.
However, none of the aforementioned players made the cut, but one current Liverpool star did.
Indeed, Gomez named Alisson Becker as the goalkeeper in his dream team, stating that the Brazilian may be the best goalie of all-time when it comes to playing out from the back.
Alisson makes the cut
Gomez named the Liverpool goalie in his greatest five-a-side team.
“An all-time five-a-side team. You can pick any player, retired or still playing.” Gomez was asked.
“All-time wow. Goalkeeper, oh they need to play a bit. I would say Alisson. I genuinely would say. When you look back at ones at Arsenal like Lehmann, he couldn’t play out. Peter Schmeichel too, but when you’re looking at someone to play it’s Ali,” Gomez said.
All-time great
Alisson was picked by Gomez to play in his all-time five-a-side team, and, to be honest, he deserves this sport.
The Brazilian may only have been playing at the very top level for five years or so, but he’s already done enough to cement himself as an all-time great.
He’s one of the most effective shot-stoppers we’ve ever seen, and as Gomez says, there aren’t many goalies who can play out from the back in the same way he can.
Rio Ferdinand, Zinedine Zindane, Ronaldinho and Thierry Henry made up the rest of Gomez’s team, so you can see that he is in esteemed company here.
Alisson may well be considered as one of the greatest goalkeepers throughout all of history.
