Glenn Hoddle was impressed by the speed with which David Raya was moving during Arsenal’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
There was a lot of noise around Mikel Arteta’s call to drop Aaron Ramsdale to the bench last week.
Well, for the third game running, the Arsenal boss kept his summer signing in between the sticks and he had a pretty eventual afternoon in the north London derby.
Whilst David Raya did concede two goals, the on-loan Brentford star also stopped Brennan Johnson at close-blank range, with Glenn Hoddle ‘wowed’ by the speed in which he moved to save the shot, as he told Premier League Productions (24/09/23 at 3:00 pm).
Given that both teams shared the spoils, then it proved to be a key moment in the game and another reason why David Raya is being picked.
It seems as though he is now Arsenal’s number one, and so far, he is impressing.

“He moved his feet so quickly to get across, he was outside the near post actually,” said Hoddle.
“If Johnson catches it properly and puts more near to the post, then it’s a goal and the goalkeeper can’t save it.
“But wow, what a save that was.”

Can Aaron Ramsdale bounce back?
Arsenal will travel across London to face off against Brentford in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night, with every chance that Aaron Ramsdale earns some minutes.
Even though Raya is on-loan from Brentford, the club have allowed Arsenal to play the Spanish star if they wish.
But with Arteta making his feelings clear as to who is number one, it would be a shock if Ramsdale isn’t given a chance against the Bees.
