Darren Bent has lavished praise on Aaron Ramsdale at Arsenal, claiming he has proven a lot of suppporters completely wrong.
Arsenal spent £30 million on the English goalkeeper last summer.
For a player who had been relegated twice from the Premier League in back-to-back seasons, it was quite a lot of money to spend.
However, the 23-year-old has proven himself an absolutely outstanding addition by Mikel Arteta.
The Spanish manager deserves so much credit for the addition because Arsenal director Edu reportedly didn’t want the former Sheffield United stopper at the Emirate Stadium, according to The Athletic.
Qualifying for the Champions League is within Arsenal’s own hands and another potential bananna skin to negotiate comes away at relegation-threatened Watford on Sunday.
Here’s what Bent said about the young Englishman:
He told Premier League Productions: “Wow. What performances he’s put in this season for Arsenal. A lot of people questioned him. A lot of people thought ‘I couldn’t quite understand it’. But Arsenal’s recruitment by bringing him in, it’s worked out well.”
Ramsdale isn’t only a stunning goalkeeper.
He is also fiercely popular in the dressing room and if Arsenal supporters had to decide on their Player of the Year tomorrow, well it might well be Ramsdale you know.
Having a reliable goalkeeper makes such a massive difference and is capable of turning average teams into very good ones.
And although Bernd Leno wasn’t exactly dreadful – some mistakes notwithstanding – it’s clear to everyone that Ramsdale is a level above.
