Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react after The Athletic revealed that Marc Guehi is close to joining Crystal Palace from Chelsea.
What’s the story?
Well, you might be wondering why this news concerns Arsenal.
The thing is, it seems the Emirates Stadium faithful have taken a bit of an interest in Crystal Palace this summer, after Patrick Vieira moved to SE25.
Of course, Vieira is an Arsenal legend, so it’s natural for Gunners fans to be intrigued by how he does in his first Premier League managerial role.
Crystal Palace’s deal for Guehi is worth somewhere in the region of £15m – £20m according to The Athletic.
It sees a player who has shone on loan at Swansea deservedly make the step up into the Premier League as a first-team regular.
Additionally, there also seemed to be a tinge of jealousy from one supporter down below, who wrote that the Eagles are making better moves than Mikel Arteta’s side this summer.
Interestingly, another fan said they wouldn’t be against sending some youngsters down to south London this summer.
Patrick Vieira could help both Arsenal and Crystal Palace
On that last point, Vieira’s relationship with Arsenal could actually help both the Gunners and the Eagles.
Players like Reiss Nelson, for example, are yet to taste regular, first-team football in the Premier League.
Their careers are stuttering as a result.
So, Vieira taking some on loan would help develop their game, and also add depth to Crystal Palace’s squad as they target a top half finish.
It remains to be seen what happens, but Vieira’s links to Arsenal will surely be utilised at some point, in our view.
