Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter in shock after The Athletic revealed that Trent Alexander-Arnold is still unlikely to go to EURO 2020.
The 22-year-old was axed by Gareth Southgate for England’s last round of international fixtures back in March.
At the time, The Athletic claimed that Alexander-Arnold had been left devastated by the news.
In that respect, we can’t imagine how he feels at hearing The Athletic‘s latest update on this quite baffling topic.
Alexander-Arnold is arguably the best right-back in Europe, and has consistently shown that for a number of seasons now.
So far this term, Liverpool’s No.66 has scored two goals and provided nine assists in all competitions, which is excellent for a full-back.
Since being dropped by Southgate in March, Alexander-Arnold has scored a crucial late winner against Aston Villa.
He has also provided quality assists against Arsenal, Leeds, Manchester United and West Brom.
In our view, we thought that his emphatic response would make Southgate change his mind, but the Three Lions boss is clearly a stubborn man.
If Alexander-Arnold doesn’t go to EURO 2020, there should be riots on the streets of England – not just on Merseyside.
Last season, he contributed an extraordinary 17 goal involvements in the Premier League, scoring four while assisting another 13.
The season before that, Alexander-Arnold scored once and assisted a further 12.
The £75,000-a-week man could be a match-winner for England this summer if he goes, such is his ability to impact a game from right-back.
Understandably so, the Liverpool fans on Twitter are gobsmacked.
