Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to celebrate after it was announced that Ciaran Clark had signed a new two-year contract at St James’ Park.
The 31-year-old’s contract was set to expire in June, although he will now remain on Tyneside until at least the summer of 2023.
Clark has impressed since returning from an ankle injury in November.
The 34-cap Republic of Ireland international has started ten Premier League games since his return, battling back to become one of Steve Bruce’s most trusted figures.
If anyone deserves a new contract with the Magpies right now, it’s Clark.

The former Aston Villa centre-back has worked hard to recover from his broken ankle, and now looks as if he’d never been away.
Since arriving at the club in 2016, Clark has been a dependable figure.
The Irishman won Newcastle’s Player of the Season award in his first campaign as a Magpie, helping the club achieve promotion to the Premier League.

In total, Clark has made 103 appearances for Newcastle, scoring 11 goals.
Amid a difficult time for the Magpies on the pitch, this news comes as a welcome update and one that the supporters seem very happy with.
