Speaking on the Doing a Leeds podcast, Jermaine Beckford has waxed lyrical about Kalvin Phillips’ assist to Patrick Bamford against Chelsea, saying that the pass left him shocked and screaming at the screen.
Beckford says that he was calling out for Phillips to play the pass with the outside of his right-foot, but he was surprised by just how good the 25-year-old’s weaker foot was when he played Phillips in against the Blues.
“But Kalvin Phillips’ pass, that pass, oh my goodness. The weight of distribution the direction of pass, the angle of his body shape when he did it, he was just on the left touchline by the halfway line as well. Wow,” Beckford said.
“I saw it and I was screaming at the screen ‘outside of the right foot, outside of the right foot’ and he didn’t it was the inside of his left foot, and I didn’t realise his left foot was as good as that it was genuinely inch perfect.”

Beckford isn’t wrong, Phillips’ pass was inch perfect.
That’s why they call him the Yorkshire Pirlo, but many Leeds supporters may have been surprised to see Phillips’ prowess with his left foot.
The United star isn’t a famously ambipedal player, scoring just three goals in his career with his left-foot, but against Chelsea, he showed that he is a danger with either foot.
There’s a reason he’s an England international these days, and it’s moments like that that have impressed Gareth Southgate over the past year or so.
The scary thing is that he keeps adding to his game, and if he continues to get better we may soon be talking about one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
